Home Builder Grant

Applications for the Government HomeBuilder scheme should be opening soon, what do you need to know about applying in Victoria?
Aim Hire was thrilled to hear about the Government HomeBuilder scheme. Not only is it fantastic for all those looking to build or renovate but its great for our customers, Victorian Builders,  and the nation to help in the economic recovery from Covid-19.

Here’s what you need to know when applications open:

  • Home Builder is a limited time, tax-free grant program introduced to help the residential construction industry survive through, and recover from, the Covid-19 pandemic.
HomeBuilder will provide eligible home buyers and renovators a $25,000 grant to build a new home or significantly renovate an existing residence. This grant is only available for owner-occupiers, no investment properties will be eligible.
  •  Full information on how to apply is yet to be released, this will be done when the National Partnership Agreement is finalised. It is expected that states will align this scheme with the existing process for first home owner grants so the two can be used in conjunction with each other.
  • Applicants will be able to apply in relation to eligible contracts entered into between 4 June 2020 up until 31 December 2020. There is no limit to the number of people this grant will be given to, however, you can only receive a payment once under this scheme and a property is also only eligible for one payment.

To answer some of your questions and help you assess if you might be eligible, the Australian Government has released a “FAQ fact sheet” which you can access here: https://treasury.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-07/HomeBuilder_Frequently_asked_questions.pdf

To register for updates and be the first to know when Victorian applications for this scheme open you can visit: https://treasury.gov.au/coronavirus/homebuilder?mc_cid=7d886d37b7&mc_eid=d8171fc10d and sign up at the bottom of the page under “more information” for email updates.
Information on how to apply will also be available on the  State Revenue Office Victoria website: https://www.sro.vic.gov.au/news/homebuilder-grants-eligible-owner-occupiers

We think this scheme will give the building industry the boost it really needs to keep going through this crisis; and we are excited to be a part – albeit small – of people’s home-ownership dreams coming true!
